📰 Here are the top stories in Orange County today:
- A man was wounded in a shooting at The Outlets at Orange mall on Friday evening. The story sounds familiar. Two groups of men, who most likely knew each other, got into it. Things went bad, and a gun was drawn and fired. The alleged shooter escaped, but reportedly one person was arrested. (KTLA)
- On Friday, a 53-year-old Costa Mesa man pleaded guilty “to two felony counts of indecent exposure with prior convictions for the offense, as well as a misdemeanor count of maintaining a nuisance.” The repeat flasher annoyed riders on a Santa Ana bus in 2022. He received a sentence of 364 days in jail, of which he had already served 184 days while in custody. (CBS)
- Newport Beach Landslide Update: One of the homes affected by the sliding hillside was torn down on Thursday. The property at 1930 Galaxy was red-tagged, and the owner requested the demolition, seeing that the neighboring houses are only yellow-tagged and might be saved. It is noteworthy that the owners had lived in the home their entire lives and couldn’t save anything from inside before the demolition. “I was right there, and it was heartbreaking,” Newport Beach Council Member Erik Weigand said. (Fox, Patch)
- We learned on Thursday that Irvine intends to close the All American Asphalt plant, buy the property, and establish the Gateway Preserve. Irvine’s City Manager explained that one of the reasons for the Preserve is to create a buffer zone “between wildlife and residential areas.” Shuttering the plant will most likely take place by the end of this year. (New University)
- Sparkling Ice is holding a monthly Flavorful Giving tour. On Saturday, they partnered with Foster Love to donate “an all-expenses-paid shoe shopping spree” to 100 children in the O.C. foster care program. The kids were invited to Foot Locker at the Brea Mall, where they received new shoes and could hang out with friends. (Sparkling Ice, 2)
