Bystander Rescues Boy From OC Riverbed After He Was Swept Downstream Miranda Ceja %%item_date%% %%item_source%%
ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A boy who fell into the Santa Ana Riverbed when he got too close to the water’s edge was rescued by a bystander who spotted the child floating down river Sunday, the Orange County Fire Authority reported.
Firefighters were sent to the in the area of Fairview St and the Santa Ana River Bed in Santa Ana at around 2:05 p.m. in response to reports about the boy.
“A little boy was swept away and traveled approximately half a mile down the Santa Ana River Bed this afternoon when he got too close to the water’s edge,” an OCFA spokesperson said via Twitter. “The child’s father went into the water to get him but was unable to. Fortunately, a bystander saw the child floating down river, jumped in, and was able to rescue the boy.”

An OCFA Swift Water Rescue Team responded to the call but found the three already out of the water upon arriving.
Paramedics treated the boy at the scene and said he had stable vital signs. He was taken to a hospital.
