LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — Laguna Niguel Mayor Sandy Rains suddenly resigned Monday after serving the city as mayor since Dec. 2022, the City of Laguna Niguel announced. She will continue serving on the Laguna Niguel City Council.

Her resignation was issued less than a week after two of her colleagues, Council members Stephanie Oddo and Ray Gennawey, publicly called for her removal from the mayoral office after Rains called for a debate on the dismissal of City Manager Tamara Letourneau, Voice of OC reported.

Rains did not respond to a request from Voice of OC for comment Monday.
